| So...in the process of channel surfing, I came upon a random daytime drama talk show. One of the shows where there is constant beeping from censoring commentary, and occasional fights break out. Anyway, the theme for the day was, "I'm 16, did my mom sleep with my boyfriend?" Now, I usually would continue flipping the channel, but for some reason I paused. Here's what I saw (we'll call the couple Jack and Diane), Host - "Jack, the lie detector test came back..........and..........it was negative." Jack - (Doesn't look too terribly surprised) Diane - "I love you. I love you. (kisses) I love you. I love you." Jack - (Kneels on one knee and slides a ring on her finger - no questions, just the assumption that she'll wear it...she did - and then kisses her back.) Host - "We'll be right back." Ok, let me get this straight. Diane thought Jack had slept with her Mom. Obviously nothing could convince her otherwise, so she dragged this guy onto the show, and had him take a lie detector test. Then, it came back negative, and she kissed him (quite passionately over and over), and allowed him to put a ring on her finger. - Why would you marry someone you don't trust? How did everything become instantly OK with a lie detector test? And what about Jack, why would you marry someone who doesn't trust you? And why didn't he actually ask her to marry him? Seriously, I don't think he ever said a word. This cannot end well. Having said that, I am so grateful that God gave me the family He did, and He helped me make the choices I've made. I'm glad He brought me a godly husband and that we're able to serve the Lord together. I forget how sad life is for those who don't have the hope of Christ in their lives. I just needed to vent. Thanks for listening Xanga-dom. | | |
| I saw a movie everyone should see. Expelled by Ben Stein. He investigates how academia has pushed anyone even remotely related to Intelligent Design out. It was a FANTASTICALLY done documentary, and highly entertaining. Ben doesn't claim to be unbiased, but rather he points out that the other side is not unbiased either. It was so great. I was unaware until last night that as a result of his book, Priveleged Planet, Guillermo Gonzales was rejected for tenure and fired from ISU. Definitely go see it. It was worth the full movie price we paid. | | |
| So, I was eating a spoonful of peanut butter (and drinking a nice, cold glass of milk, of course!), when I took too big of a bite. I smacked and struggled to get it all swallowed, and gratefully gulped in air once I finally got it down. I then realized that I probably looked something like Mr. Ed, remembering that I had once heard that they gave him peanut butter to make it look like he was talking. Then I wondered if the ASPCA has anything against giving peanut butter to animals. I mean, it tastes good, but it can be a bit tricky to eat sometimes. That led to thinking about whether or not animals have peanut allergies. At this point, I said aloud, "Did more than one horse play Mr. Ed?" Matt answered, "I'm not sure." To which I replied, "I wonder if any of the Mr. Ed's had peanut allergies?" Poor guy just looked at me like I was crazy - remember, I had a large spoonful of peanut butter in one hand and a glass of milk in the other. I had to explain the entire train of thought, and it was so random, that I thought someone else might enjoy laughing as much as we did. I think I would be a good candidate for that 6 degrees of separation thing. I don't know much about it, but I do know that my trains of thought travel all over (and never have to cancel for service stuff like poor American Airlines is having to do w/its planes), and I can usually track the entire process. Most people probably can, but I think they choose not to. Hmm... Anyway, that's all. Have a nice day. P.S. I typed Mr. Ed into DVD's, and got nothing even remotely close. When I typed peanut butter into books, Shrinky Dinks was one of my options. While totally unrelated to the post, I think they're cool, so they won the "currently reading" privilege | | |
| The "new weblog entry" button was nowhere to be found, and I seriously had to click lots of different links trying to find it. That's sad! I wanted to update on our lives. We are now living in Orlando, FL. It's marvelous! The weather here is always temperate, and we can go on walks at night w/o wearing coats and hats and gloves. So, that's where we are, and this is where we'll stay for at least a year (we have a year lease). God has been super-faithful to us. In August, we moved to Texas to care for Matt's grandparents. We were members of a fabulous church and Sunday school, and we lived in a camper in the abuelos' driveway. It was great! (I could clean my entire home in 2 minutes!) Matt's grandparents recovered to the point where they could be alone again (more or less), so in November, it was time to leave. We didn't want to move to Florida pre-holidays, so we moved to St. Louis and stayed with my parents for the holidays. We worked for my parents at the studio (they're super-busy during the fall and holidays), and we had a wonderful time. In January, we moved to Florida, and Matt went to Venezuela with the IMB as part of a documentary crew. While he was there, I found a townhouse for us to live in. He is now back, and he's working as a freelance-dude for an advertising company. I'm still waiting (not too terribly patiently) for the Department of Education to send my Florida teaching certificate. They've promised a 30 to 40 day turn around. (That's not a joke!) So anyway, despite our life of extreme vagabond-ish-ness, we've consistantly had a place to live, good friends, and stuff to do. After almost 7 months of sleeping on everything from couches to futons to an air mattresses, we now have our own bed again. I highly recommend a bed to an airmattress. Ok. There you have it. | | |
